A unique opportunity to be part of a special program launched by the Trampolini family of Perugia Italy. For more than 20 years, acres of 100+ year old olive trees in Umbria have been left abandoned. The reason is due to mechanization of the olive harvest. These trees are growing in the rolling hills of Umbria and need to be harvested by hand. Machines cannot fit among the trees without damaging them, the people who would pick the olives have left the countryside for "greener pastures" in the cities. Olive Oil of the World has joined the movement to bring these trees back into production by "adoption." Your contribution finances clearing the weeds and vines that have taken over the fields and entangled the trees, the hiring of staff to pick the olives, and the costs involved with pressing the olives into oil. Each tree you adopt will have a plaque engraved with the sponsor's name. The sponsor will receive a "certificate of adoption" and 4 bottles (2 liters) of olive oil pressed from your tree in a wooden box shipping included. Adoptions for 2012 will run until Oct 1st in time for the harvest and estimated delivery dates in the US between Dec 1st and Feb 1st. This program runs year to year and requires renewing each year in order to remain the tree's sponsor. We can also arrange for you to be part of the actual harvest of your tree in the late fall or for a visit to your tree at any time of year.
